Cookie policy

How System Plumbing and Gas uses cookies and similar technologies on this website, and how you turn analytics off if you want.

This cookie policy explains how System Plumbing and Gas uses cookies and similar technologies on this website.

Last updated: 1 October 2026.

It should be read with our privacy policy, which covers personal information more broadly.

Why we show a cookie notice

Australia does not currently legally mandate a cookie consent banner. We still show a short notice so you know this site uses analytics cookies, and so you can turn them off if you want. Closing the notice (OK, or by scrolling the page) leaves analytics on. Use Settings — or Cookie settings in the footer — to turn that category off.

You can use the site either way. Strictly necessary cookies (including your choice itself) still apply.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. It lets the site remember a choice (for example, that you turned analytics off) or recognise a returning browser for statistics.

Similar technologies (pixels, local storage) can do a related job. In this policy, “cookies” includes those unless we say otherwise.

Cookies are not viruses. They cannot read the rest of your hard drive. They can be used to build a picture of how you use a site, which is why we tell you and give you a way to turn analytics off.

First-party and third-party

  • First-party cookies are set by this website. Our consent cookie sp_consent is first-party.
  • Third-party cookies are set in connection with another service. Google Analytics 4 runs on Google’s infrastructure. Those analytics cookies are associated with Google’s service, used here to produce reports for us — unless you have turned that category off.

Google Consent Mode

This site uses Google Consent Mode. That is a setting that tells Google’s tags whether analytics is on or off for your browser.

  • If analytics is on, Google Analytics 4 may set the cookies in the table below and collect usage data as described in our privacy policy. That is the default.
  • If you turn analytics off, we do not store analytics identifiers on your device. Google’s tags run in a restricted way that does not use those cookies. You will still see the pages; we simply get less (or no) identifiable analytics about that visit.

Your choice is stored in the sp_consent cookie so we do not show the notice on every page load.

Cookies we use

Google Tag Manager itself does not set cookies. It only delivers tags. Universal Analytics cookies such as _gid and _gat are not used — this site uses Google Analytics 4 only.

Strictly necessary

These are needed for the site to remember your cookie choice. They stay on.

Cookie name Who sets it Purpose Expiry
sp_consent This website (first-party) Stores whether analytics is on or off for this browser so we can honour that choice on the next visit. 12 months

If we later add a cookie that is strictly required for security or load balancing, we will name it in this table.

Analytics

These are set when analytics is on. Turn the Analytics toggle off in Cookie settings if you do not want them.

Cookie name Who sets it Purpose Expiry
_ga Google Analytics 4 (Google) Distinguishes one browser from another so we can see approximate visitor numbers and patterns, not your name. 2 years
_ga_<STREAM_ID> Google Analytics 4 (Google) Keeps the session state for this site’s Analytics stream (pages in a visit, and related measurement). The suffix is the stream identifier Google assigns. 2 years

We do not use Universal Analytics. Cookies you may see mentioned elsewhere — _gid, _gat, __utma and similar — are not part of this implementation.

Marketing

Cookie name Who sets it Purpose Expiry
None — We do not set advertising or remarketing cookies. —

If that changes (for example a Google Ads remarketing tag), we will update this table and add a Marketing toggle to Cookie settings, defaulted off, before those cookies are used.

How to change your preferences

On this website

Use the Cookie settings control in the website footer. It reopens the toggles so you can turn analytics off or on. The new choice overwrites the old one in sp_consent.

In your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in the browser. That is broader than our footer control — it can affect other sites and may log you out of them.

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Safari: Settings → Safari → Privacy
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security

If you block all cookies, the site may forget your choice and show the notice again. Core pages should still work.

What data analytics may include

If analytics is on, Google may process technical data (IP address, device type, pages viewed, approximate location) on our behalf. Google processes that data in the United States and other countries where it operates. See our privacy policy, including the overseas disclosure section, and Google’s own privacy information.

We use this to understand which pages are useful, whether the site is working, and (when Search Console is linked) which Google searches led to a visit. We do not use analytics cookies to sell a list of your details.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if we change tags or the law changes. The “Last updated” date will change. If we add marketing cookies, we will update the table and the Cookie settings control before those cookies are used.
